Apple Puts Importance Back on Album Art
SPECIAL ENTRY 01: the small iOS 16 feature with a big impact for music designers
iOS 16’s lock screen overhaul brings some small changes to the music player on the iPhone, but does a number for those who care about album art.
short but important entry here, as i’m excited about the new refreshes coming to the iPhone this fall. wanted to share with all of you, as i think you’ll get the same enjoyment out of this tiny feature lol.
just look at the comparison of the current lock screen player with the new one.
such a pretty refresh!!! apparently, the background of the lock screen will change with the album art, similar to how it does on Apple Music’s Now Playing screen. that feature was a very welcome one, replacing the white/black background of yesterday.
according to 9to5Mac, you can tap the small album art at the bottom of the screen to bring on the larger artwork (pictured right), and toggle between these views as you wish.
you can now favorite artists so you’re notified of their new releases which is nice! there’s a new volume slider too, they’ve basically removed the little bubble indicator that was there before. may take some getting used to.
the last time album art was full-size on the iPhone lock screen was iOS 10 back in 2016!!!
they squished the artwork into this tiny little tile on the screen to save room of course, which is utilitarian, sure, but visually kinda lame :( we didn’t even have the option to change it back, but now we will!!! those who want more screen real estate can keep the player tiny, and those who love album art can make it large.
once again, a very welcome change to the OS, thank you apple, this is a big move because when apple does something, people notice!!!
you excited for this new player? do you prefer the consolidated player of old? lemme know in the comments !!!
YO I didn't know this and this just changed my life
